Dr. Shinya Hanaoka

Brief Biography: Dr. Shinya Hanaoka is a professor at the Department of Transdisciplinary Science and Engineering, School of Environment and Society, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He has received a Ph.D., a master’s degree, and a bachelor’s degree from Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. He has worked as a researcher at the Institute for Transport Policy Studies in Tokyo (1999–2003), an assistant professor at Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand (2003-2007), a visiting researcher at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, United Kingdom (2002) and an associate professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology (2007-2017). His research interests include transport development studies, air transport and transport logistics. In his glorious academic career, he has published more than 66 refereed international journal articles, 40 refereed national journal articles (some are written in Japanese), 50 refereed international conference papers, 5 book chapters (in English) and presented his research work in more than 100 international and domestic conference proceedings. Dr. Hanaoka has always remained active in professional societies holding important posts, such as, deputy secretary general (2016-till date) of the Eastern Asia Society for Transportation Studies (EASTS); networking committee member of Air Transport Research Society (ATRS); member of scientific committee and steering committee (2014-till date) of the World Conference of Transport Research Society (WCTRS), international editorial board member (2013-till date) of the Journal of Air Transport Management, etc.
